Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)

MEAP is a federally funded program that operates year-round and assists eligible Maryland households free of charge. The program is aimed at making homes more comfortable by repairing and replacing heating, cooling, and water heating systems.

We do not provide bill pay assistance, if you are in need of bill pay assistance please contact your local county's Energy Assistance office (OHEP) or call 800-332-6347.

To be eligible for the MEAP program, you need to:

  1. Meet income qualifications. Your household income needs to be lower than the limits based on household size, as shown in the Income Limits table.
  2. Have a non-functioning heating, cooling, and/or water heating system.

What kind of work will be eligible is based on a home assessment and funding availability.

How Does the Program Work?

Once we have determined that your household is eligible to participate in the program, you will be contacted by a local agency that will schedule a time for your home to be assessed. The assessment will evaluate your service needs and determine in which ways we can increase the comfort of your home. The local agency will discuss the results of the assessment with you and schedule a contractor to come out to your home to complete the recommended work.
