We are seeking interns to help grow our capacity to tell Maryland's story. Every intern will have the opportunity to dive into creative projects, ranging from developing press releases to attending press events and creating unique social campaigns. Whether you’re brainstorming new ways to spotlight our programs or helping capture the voices of Marylanders whose lives we touch, you’ll play a key role in elevating the work of the Department and the
Moore-Miller Administration.
About the Office of Public Affairs
The Office of Public Affairs is the public’s direct line for news about the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s objectives, achievements and programs. We are responsible for customer service and media inquiries, and produce the department’s virtual newsroom, social media sites, annual report and other publications. We are also the lead on storytelling for the agency, creating success stories of projects, people, jurisdictions and organizations across Maryland who have utilized our programs and funding.
The Office of Public Affairs internship for Spring 2026 semester will be focused on interns with an interest in Communications.
Communications Internship

Description:
- Communications interns will assist with preparing engaging, creative communications content (social media posts, blog posts, newsletters, talking points, etc.) following strategies and guidance set out by the Office of Public Affairs.
- Interns will assist with storytelling for the agency, ensuring the Department effectively promotes the agency’s mission and successes through the most appropriate communications tactics.
- Interns will directly report to the Director of Communications and will have opportunities to attend press events, engage with senior Department leadership, develop new ideas and content approaches, and more.

Requirements:
- Must have solid writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Creative mindset, with the ability to generate fresh ideas for content, campaigns, and storytelling across digital platforms.

Preferred Qualifications for Office of Public Affairs Internships
- Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Work Schedules & Compensation

Standard business hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum commitment: 20 hours a week

In-office Requirement: At least one day per week at the Lanham office
